In the beginning, there was fire, caves and hand axes from stone. And a long way it was, to achieve what we have today! (…)

The history of civilization, of developing social cooperation, was a process of obstacles and challenges. So where do we stand today? Sociologist and historian Richard Sennett wrote a book named „Together – The Rituals, Pleasures and Politics of Cooperation“ which reconstructs forgotten techniques of how humans socialized in medieval times, the Enlightenment or during the times of industrialization. Six performers revisit these historical examples, exploring surprising possibilities of social interaction. How can people who follow different interests be unified? Even if they don’t understand, know or like each other? Which mechanisms do evoke a feeling of togetherness?
