Synapsis
More than often marked as “unreadable” there are hardly any aficionados to be found. That is why we think the public interest and the studies about Gertrude Stein should be increased. As the modern age began it was stated: Gertrude Stein wrote to be read. And this is what we are going to do now.

Gertrude Stein never tired to stress that her work “The Making of Americans” was to be read out loud and in groups. The sound of the spoken word and the repetitions within cause slight differences in meaning. During the performance of reading something physical and three-dimensional builds up. “The Making of Americans” gained cult status in artistic circles. Since its release it increased the dialogue between writers, publishers and fine artists. The reading of “The Making of Americans” in Basel lasted 62h. About 120 guests and the audience participated in the reading.
